Saviez Vineyard Management implements use of "Pressure Bomb"

In 2007, Saviez Vineyard Management implemented the use of a device known as a “Pressure Bomb” for all of our vineyard management clients. This tool has been in use for some time now in the Viticulture industry, as well as in other agricultural applications, to monitor plant moisture stress.

  • Dehydration Prevention:
We all know that some water stress pushes the brix higher and higher, but…too much water stress can cause dehydration. This will enable us to push the sugars up while monitoring the vineyard for unnecessary dehydration. Current estimates are that for every degree above 25 brix, you can potentially lose up to 5% of your yield. Most of us cannot afford that situation.
  • Cost Effective:
Water, like most of our natural resources is becoming more and more expensive. By using this method of monitoring your vineyard, water use can be controlled. In some cases vineyards use less water, but at more frequent intervals, reducing dehydration, as well as water usage and cost.
  • Grape Quality:
Ah, now I have your full attention. This device will help all of us understand what is happening in your soil that can have a direct effect on grape quality. Is your soil rocky, or loamy? And…at which soil depths? How deep are your roots? The Pressure Bomb will help us establish a seasonal pattern of when we should water, and at what crucial intervals with regard to your specific vineyard situation.

Starting in May, one of our staff will be monitoring your Vineyard moisture stress with this device on a weekly basis. At each Vineyard readings will be taken at different specific locations. The reading will be entered on to a report on a weekly basis until post harvest. As we approach Harvest, weekly sugar testing will be entered on to this same weekly report. Additional readings can be taken upon request.

Saviez Vineyard Management purchases new equipment

Recently, Saviez Vineyard Management purchased a New Holland C190 Skid Steer Tractor, a somewhat smaller Tractor utilizing rubber drive tracks instead of metal ones.
